Carolina Community Archaeology conducted 34 Shovel Test Pits (STPs) at Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park on Saturday, May 31, 2025, as part of the Stories Surround Us series, funded by the Alice L. Walton Foundation. This was the first phase in the research and development of a future Interpretive Center. Over 70 citizens attended, each participating in a live archaeological excavation and learning more about the history of Mitchelville.
